The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has taken a significant step towards enhancing its operational efficiency by upgrading security facilities at the country's ports and jetties. This move demonstrates the company's unwavering commitment to process improvement, regulatory compliance, and performance excellence.
According to NNPC's Executive Vice President of Business Services, Mr Inuwa Danladi, the company has successfully obtained the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code Compliance certification from the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency. This certification, issued in April 2024, covers all NNPC jetties nationwide and is crucial for ensuring business continuity, preventing potential operational disruptions, and minimizing financial losses.
The certification not only underscores NNPC's adherence to regulatory compliance but also grants the company access to the Global Integrated Shipping Information System, thereby enhancing its reputation as a safe and reliable business destination. Furthermore, it is expected to reduce the company's insurance premiums.
To achieve this certification, NNPC implemented several key processes, including the upgrading of security facilities at the nation's ports and jetties, the establishment of an ISPS Code Command Centre, and the engagement of a NIMASA-recognized security officer to manage key regulatory processes. Additionally, the company developed a Port Facility Security Assessment and Port Facility Security Plan, which were verified through an inspection exercise conducted by NIMASA.
This achievement is a testament to NNPC's dedication to attaining regulatory excellence in all its operations. As the sole importer of premium motor spirit in Nigeria, the company remains committed to sustaining its march towards process improvement and performance excellence.
