According to Zeta Power, utilizing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a promising initiative that can effectively reduce fuel expenses by 50%. Kyriakos Schizas, the CEO of Operation at Zeta Power Limited, emphasized this during an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday. Schizas explained that companies could potentially save over half of their current energy generation costs by transitioning their fuel engines to CNG.

While some individuals may consider the N600,000 conversion fee for a car to be excessive, Schizas pointed out that car owners would actually save over N1m within a year by utilizing CNG. He also addressed concerns by discussing the concept of bi-fuel, assuring that converting to CNG would not hinder the engines from operating on petrol or diesel, as they would automatically switch back to these fuels whenever CNG is not available.

Furthermore, Schizas alleviated fears of potential explosions by emphasizing the durability of CNG cylinders in withstanding internal pressure. He asserted that CNG does not contaminate engine oil, thereby enhancing lubrication and prolonging the engine's lifespan. Additionally, he highlighted the cleanliness of gas, which prevents carbon build-up.

As a mechanical engineer, Schizas advocated for Nigeria to prioritize gas investments and reduce petrol imports. He asserted that if all vehicles in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt were to switch to CNG, the nation could save an estimated N10tn annually.
